Happy Grammar Day!

March 4 is officially National Grammar Day in the US and Supertext is jumping on the bandwagon. Notice the date? The founders had a clear mission: march forth to better grammar!

Grammar is the backbone of any language and we’ve covered many issues in this blog, be it the English apostrophe or defying rules. Bad grammar can be infuriating, embarrassing and occasionally quite sweet. Usually though, it’s simply funny.

So how do you celebrate Grammar Day? This would, of course, be the perfect opportunity to check out this grammar website or bury your nose in this grammar book and have a good read – trust me, both are highly informative and entertaining. But if this sounds too tame for you, you could buy the T-shirt, pour yourself a grammartini and attempt to write a grammar haiku. Enjoy!

The Grammartini

National Grammar Day founder, Martha Brockenbrough, shares her grammartini recipe to spice up your celebrations:

  1. 2 1/2 oz gin
  2. 1/2 oz dry vermouth (The ratio is what’s important.)
  3. 1 green olive (Some people use lemon. I say, what is up with that?)
  4. Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice cubes. (I use a Value Village cocktail shaker.)
  5. Stir for 30 seconds. (You can also shake, but John McIntyre says this bruises the gin. Who wants to be charged with gin abuse?)
  6. Strain into a martini glass.
  7. Drink
